Missing the D

It makes sense that doctors have been telling skin cancer patients to avoid the cancer-causing ultraviolet rays of the sun. However, would you ever guess that by avoiding such a strong source of Vitamin D, the same patients are actually three times more at risk of being Vitamin D deficient than all other Americans?

Doctors did a study on various skin cancer patients to watch how much sun and Vitamin D intake they were receiving on a daily basis. The patients' readings of Vitamin D levels were indeed lower than the rest of the population which is already too low.

Doctors are working to find a more specific healthy range of Vitamin D to advise for their skin cancer patients but doctors are advising patients to take a minimum of 200 to 400 IU of Vitamin D daily until studies are complete and it is definite as to how much patients actually need.
